Tuesday, November 3, 2009 - At 6:55 am, the first alarm assignment consisting of Strasburg FC (5-10, first due), Refton FC (5-9), QFD Engine 5-7-4, 5-7-2, Truck 5-7 and LEMSA EMS was dispatched to Weaver Road and Miller Road in Strasburg Township for a barn fire. Truck 5-10 reported smoke showing from a mile out.
Truck 5-10 and Engine 5-7-4 arrived together with Engine 5-7-4 laying 700' of 4" supply line in the driveway. Engine 5-7-4' crew deployed an intital attack with the blitzfire. The crew then stretched a handline and entered on side "D" to cut off any fire extension. Truck 5-10's crew stretched a line to side "B".
Engine 5-7-2 arrived and laid an additional 700' of 4" supply line in the driveway. Truck 5-7 took side "D" and set up for master stream operations. Tanker 5-7 made the response on the 2nd alarm and supplied water to the scene.
QFD crews entered the chicken house and began pulling the ceilings to expose any fire extension. The ceiling was blown in insulation, making quite a mess of everyone and everything.
The fire was under control in about 30 minutes with crews doing overhaul and cleaning up for an additional 2 hours.
Good work to all first in and assisting companies. There were no injuries to any firefighters or residents.
Thanks to Union FC Engine 21-2 for covering our station, and to the companies on the scene that assisted with picking up and re-packing the supply line on both engines.
