At 6:15 am Friday morning, QFD and mutual aid were dispatched to 752 Solanco Road in East Drumore Township for a barn fire. On response, LCWC indicated “numerous calls received” indicating a working fire.
Units arrived to find a 50′ X 150′ “hoop barn” that was full of trash with a working fire at one end of the structure. The tarp roof was also torn loose and blowing in the winds that were gusting over 50 mph.
Engine 574 laid 1200′ of 4″ in the driveway with Tanker 57 assuming water supply as a nurse tanker using the clapper valves. Truck 57 set up and once a secure water supply was established, flowed 20,000+ gallons of water onto the fire. Engine 572 set up a tanker fill site at the QPRC pond on Park Avenue filling 12 tanker (35,5000 gallons). Rescue 57 assisted at the scene. QFD Fire Police and Squad 572 directed and detoured traffic.
Mutual aid from Bart Township laid an additional supply line into the scene, but was not used. All other mutual aid either worked in the water supply or manpower pool. Units remained on the scene for 2 hours and 40 minutes, then spent an additional 2.5 hours washing hose, tools and apparatus. In all, QFD units utilized 2,700 feet of hoseline, most all of which needed washed and dried due to the extreme muddy conditions.
Thanks to all of our mutual aid partners, Kinzer FC Tanker 45 and crew (on stand by), the QFD Special Division (food and drinks) and all of the members that turned out or assisted at the station to get the rigs back in service. A lot of them missing several hours of work. And, as always, thanks to Tom Amico for the pictures.
