pThis past weekend was busy for QFD Firefighters providing not only emergency responses but community service events.ppFriday the Company answered 5 alarms ranging from stand-bys to house fires.nbsp A storm went through the area in the afternoon with several lightning strikes keeping Southern End units moving.ppOn Saturday members tore up and removed the blacktop from the driveway and we got prepared for the resurfacing project to be done by Halls Paving.nbsp Firefighters and volunteers operated equipment making quick work of tearing up 20 dump truck loads of macadam and saving the company thousands of dollars.nbsp While this was being accomplished other members landscaped around the newly installed emergency generator.nbsp This generator was acquired from Quarryville Borough and after a housing was built pad poured and wiring upgrade in the station completed was put into service.nbsp It is an 80kw generator which will power our entire station during an outage.nbsp With the Borough donating this generator we were able to savenbspin the area of nbsp40000.00 over the cost of a new one.ppWhile these projects were taking place Engine 574 and Truck 57 went to and assisted in the Bob Bard 5K Run.nbsp Engine 574 lead the group of racers and Truck 57 provided a platform for the candy drop.nbsp Again this year we had Delaney Heller a cancer survivor riding with us in Engine 574.nbsp QFD Fire Police also assisted with traffic control for this event.ppAfter th 5K the QFD Fire Police assisted at the Witness Fest directing and controlling traffic.nbsp Estimates put the crowd size at 20000 for the day.nbsp This is a large undertaking and took a lot of dedication from our Fire Police to help with the traffic.nbsp The Fire Police also handled a request from the Borough Police for a stuck tractor trailer Friday evening at Lime St. and Second St.ppThanks to all of the members who helped with the various projects and events during the weekend.p
