Harvest season is arriving in Solanco and across Lancaster County. Silos are starting to be filled, and already, we have seen some silo gas issues locally and within the county. This is a naturally occurring event, but please be aware and make safety a priority while filling and “leveling off” silos. The two pictures were taken within 24 hours. The conventional, concrete silo is in Bart Township and the oxygen-limiting blue steel silo is in the Manheim area.
Here are some links from Penn State Extension that can be helpful to our farming community.

QFD used August as our agricultural training month, and discussed at length about these dangers and practiced several different scenarios. However, the best rescue is the one that does not occur. Please stay safe !!!
