At 3:11 pm Sunday, QFD was alerted to assist Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company on a house fire on Hilltop Lane in Providence Township. Assistant 58 arrived with a working fire in a one-story log type house. This residence is at one on the highest points in Lancaster County, and required most personnel to walk the 1000′ up a very steep road. This, combined with the heat, made for some trying conditions.
Truck 57 was able to position behind Engine 582 and the crew threw ladders, operated inside and on the roof. The roof crew had to cut a large area of roof that had fire between the roof and the interior wooden ceiling. The fire was knocked down quickly and located quickly in the roof, helping to limit damage. Interior crews needed to use a chainsaw and work off of a ladder to open the ceiling (again, very hard work). Tanker 57 assisted in the water supply, Engine 574’s crew assisted with operations and Rescue 57 had the RIT.
Good work by all members on this hot afternoon.
