On this 4th Tuesday night, QFD Volunteers had a “Pump Night With Carl”. Our Chief Engineer, Carl Weicksel, planned a water movement drill involving relay pumping. This is a tactic in which an engine at a water supply pumps to another engine (or as many as needed, most times at least 1,000′ apart) up to the attack engine. It is not a skill that is used often, so that is why we trained on it. We have several driveways in our first-due area that exceed 3,000 feet where this would be the water supply tactic of choice.

Thanks to everyone who turned out and put in another 50+ manhours of training. We were able to easily flow approximately 1,000 gallons per minute.
