pJust before 8 pm a line of severe storms hit the Providence TownshipDrumore Township Strasburg area producing signifcant damage in many areas.nbsp The following is some of the calls that the volunteer members of the Quarryville Fire Company 1 handled throughout the night.ppRescue 57 was first requested to go to Willow Street Fire Company 50 for stand by while they operated at a trench rescue.nbsp Before the Rescue left it was requested as a second rescue on a vehicle accident with entrapment at Rt. 896 and Belmont Road in Paradise Township to assist Bart Twp. FC 51.nbsp Before the rescues arrival extrication was complete and they were sent to Station 51 for stand by.nbspppShortly after 8 pm the electricty in most of the Southern End went out andnbspLCWC began dispatching multiple calls in the DrumoreProvidence Twp. area for wires down trees down and buildings damaged.nbsp The first call for QFD was a house fire on Fritz Avenue in Quarryville Borough.nbsp This was attributed to an electrical issuelightning strike.nbsp All other QFD units were then on the street responding to various fire alarms wires down calls and buildings damaged.nbsp Most of the serious damage was centered around the Cinder Road Fairview Road Schoolhouse Road and Hollow Road areas.nbsp On arrival units found houses with the roofs blown off trees poles and wires snapped and down roads blocked and all kinds of debris laying around.nbsp Members quickly began to assess the damage and go door to door checking on residents and tarping roofs to limit damage from the rain.ppWhile all this was happening other QFD units were dispatched to the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community to assist with people reportedly stuck in elevators and needing various assistance.nbsp QFD crews worked with QPRC crews to clear all of the elevators and assist in moving some residents.nbsp They also assisted with a gas leak while there.ppCrews returned to station around 1030 pm and ran a few others calls until most left at around 1 am.nbsp Several members remained to man the station until power was restored.ppDuring this storm QFD had over 40 members responding to incidents and handling things at the fire station.nbsp Chief Welk had all QFD units switch to our quottalk-aroundquot channel on our radios and gave out calls as he received them from LCWC thus freeing up the radio for other companies to utilize.nbspppThanks to all of the members who responded and all of the QFD and assist company fire police that helped to block off traffic to the affected areas.nbsp Thanks also to the Providence Township road crew that made quick work of opening up roads and clearing trees.ppAs of the evening of 1020 the National Weather Service declared this event an EF1 Tornado with winds in excess of 100 mph.p
