At 2:20 pm Friday, just after returning from a fire alarm, QFD was alerted to a “transformer down on fire” on Mapleshade Road in Colerain Township. On arrival of Brush 57, a lot of debris was located on the road and numerous trees were down in the area of the dispatched address. Deputy 57 assumed command and requested additional units from the station and fire police.
Crews from Engines 574, 572 and Truck 57 check multiple addresses finding damage from poles down and trees down to barns sustaining heavy damage and silos with tops blown off. Fortunately, there were no injuries to any residents. Some of the damage was located in Bart FC’s part of Colerain and they were requested to respo d and checked several additional properties. Fire Police from 57, 51, 52 and 89 kept traffic closed and detoured throughout the incident.
The NWS confirmed that a small tornado touched down and caused the damage.
