QFD Fill Site 57-36 – 800 block of Valley Rd. Eden Township
During the week, a fill site that has been used on several fires through the years was upgraded. The pond was recently re-done, and fortunately for us, the resident opted to install a dry hydrant for fire department use. Once the pond is refilled, there will be tens of thousands of gallons of water available for quick access.
A dry hydrant is an installed pipe going into a waterway with a permanent connection up that an engine can hook up to and draft. This increases the length from the engine that a water supply can be, making unusable water available for firefighting.
This is the second dry hydrant in our area, but we would like to have more. if you have a pond or supply site that may not be readily available for normal drafting operations (more than 30′ – 50′ from a driveway or road), you may be able to install a dry hydrant making water available for your area. Let us know. We are constantly working on upgrading our firefighting water availability and ease of use.

This would not have been possible without the cooperation between the property owner and some local businesses stepping up.
